8th March: Women’s Day

Today many people are enjoying this wonderful sunny Sunday, taking a walk on the banks of Lake Como. So many flowering yellow branches in the hands of women. In Italy, Mimosa is the typical flower to celebrate the International Women’s Daysimply known as Women’s Day”.

Women’s Day occurs every year on March 8th to commemorate the political, economic and social achievements reached by women. In Italy we begun to celebrate this anniversary in 1922.

The symbol of this holiday is a flower, Mimosa, chosen in 1946 by the Union of Italian Women “because it was cheap  but also one of the few plants that bloom in March.
