The stories of Lake Como floods

One frequent guest came to say “hello” some days ago… it’s him, it’s Lake Como!

In fact Lake Como has been a loyal client of the Hotel Metropole Suisse for more than a century, we know him pretty well.

If you don’t believe it, ask our porter, he’s got a lot of funny stories to tell you, we collected his epic tails in our hotel book “Lake Como and 120 years of History as seen from a Grand Hotel“.

Any “gem”? In 2002 the water was so high that our clients have been carried out on the waiter’s shoulders.

In 1987 we caught a chub in the dining room. As the water level began to drop we saw something splashing about…

Even during the most difficult times, there has always been a sort of general indulgence in relation to Lake Como’s high waters. At the end of the day, during the high waters the lake was doing no more than retaking a piece of land that for the whole of the previous century had been part of the lake itself. Piazza Cavour had in fact been, up until 1869, Como’s harbour!

But, for this time, no worries… We are still open as the water is just outside, visit us to enjoy a little “Venice”!!
